Disability Awareness

Disabilities in the Workplace

A summary of a global survey conducted by Accenture, published in Harvard Business Review, states:

  • Many companies are "employing a greater number of persons with disabilities than ever before."
  • 67% of "business executive respondents said they believe their companies support employees with disabilities, including having the right technologies in place to do so and the right environment."
  • However, only "20% of the employees in the survey who had a disability agreed that their workplace culture is fully committed to helping them thrive and succeed," and "76% of employees with disabilities in the survey report not fully disclosing their disabilities at work."

According to the report from Accenture, "[p]ersons with disabilities are a large, untapped source of talent."

Also, the full report of the survey lists (and explains) eight factors to improve inclusivity in the workplace:

  1. Clear role models
  2. Employee resource groups
  3. Parental leave
  4. Fair and transparent pay
  5. Training
  6. Flexible working options
  7. Freedom to innovate
  8. Mental well-being policies
