NASA@ My Library: Secrets of the Universe

"Secrets of the Universe" is a NASA@ My Library kit that studies math and the universe through three fun activities.

Key Concepts:

Use math to figure out how high or low participants could jump on another planet
Indicate that gravitational force of planets pulls objects toward the planet's center
Differentiate between weight and mass
Multiply with decimals

Demonstrate a basic distance model of the Earth, Moon, and Mars

Jumping On Other Planets
Participants use math to figure out how high (or low) they could jump on another planet.
One Foot Wonders
Children explore standard and nonstandard measurement as they hunt for objects that are one-foot long.
Playdough Planets
Patrons learn about distances in our Solar System by creating planets out of playdough and placing them the correct distance apart.

Almost all the activities in the Clearinghouse have pictures or videos of real libraries doing these activities. Activities developed outside the STAR_Net Project will include tips and tricks for implementing in your library, and will link you back to the original source content so you can explore more.
